The Supreme Court of New Jersey has appointed Partner,  Paul M. da Costa, as Chair of the Civil Certification Committee. He has served on the Committee since 2022.

The New Jersey Supreme Court established the Board on Attorney Certification in 1980 to help consumers find an attorney with specialized competence in a particular area of law. The Board designates lawyers from New Jersey as “Certified Attorneys” if they demonstrate sufficient levels of experience, education, knowledge, and skill in one of five areas of law. More information is available regarding the selection criteria on the NJ Supreme Court Website.

As a member of the Civil Certification Committee, Paul will be responsible for evaluating applicants seeking certification as a civil trial attorney. He will be involved in creating and grading the exams administered by the Board as part of the certification process. These exams determine whether an attorney becomes certified.

Paul is a New Jersey Supreme Court-certified civil trial attorney with years of experience representing clients in medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, and personal injury matters.  As a Partner at Sarno da Costa D’Aniello Maceri LLC, Paul has helped recover millions in compensation for victims and their families. He represented numerous families and staff members who have fallen victim to COVID-19 inside nursing homes, such as the Veterans Memorial Homes at Menlo Park and Paramus. His representation of the veterans and their families included testifying before the New Jersey Legislature. Paul ultimately obtained settlements totaling $44 million for his clients.

Paul is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. Paul regularly handles high-profile cases, some of which were covered by various media outlets such as Time, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC Philadelphia, Star-Ledger, Bergen Record, The Huffington Post, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, New Jersey Law Journal, VICE News, NJTV News, AP news, New Jersey 12, NJ.com, NorthJersey.com, CBS Radio, Newsweek, and The New York Times.
