The Associated Press recently reported that a new study has found that medical professionals “frequently misdiagnose breast tissue.” In many situations, this causes some women to undergo treatment that is unnecessary and vice versa, other women are not given treatment when it is needed.
The study looked at two groups who read breast biopsy results. One group consisted of regular pathologists and the other consisted of an expert panel. The study concluded that the regular pathologists failed to identify certain types of precancerous cells, even if they regularly found invasive cancer cells.
The study highlights the fact that breast biopsies may be more frequently misdiagnosed than was originally thought. If you had a breast biopsy, were misdiagnosed, and suffered harm as a result, you may have a medical malpractice claim.
