New Jersey Super Lawyers List 2018

Sarno da Costa D’Aniello Maceri LLC takes great pleasure in announcing that nine of our attorneys have been selected for inclusion in 2018 New Jersey Super Lawyers, a publication renowned as one of the most prestigious and reliable for recognizing skilled and accomplished attorneys in the legal profession.

The Super Lawyers list is published by Thomson Reuters and evaluates attorneys by combining peer nominations and evaluations with a patented independent research process. Less than five percent of the attorneys in New Jersey are selected for this honor each year.

The Sarno da Costa D’Aniello Maceri attorneys included in this year’s New Jersey Super Lawyers are:

Angelo Sarno, the founding/managing partner and a Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey, has been selected to Super Lawyers each year since its first publication in 2005. His numerous honors also include being selected to New Jersey Super Lawyers Top 100 list in 2009 and Best Lawyers in America in the area of Family Law each year since 2014. Super Lawyers evaluates attorneys from more than 70 practice areas, and those who are featured in the exclusive Top 100 list have received the most total points earned from a patented multiphase selection process. Mr. Sarno has also argued successfully before the Supreme Court of New Jersey, setting important precedent regarding the enforceability of oral palimony agreements.

Jerry S. D’Aniello is a managing partner of the Somerset County office and practices in all aspects of matrimonial law, including mediation and arbitration. He has been named to Super Lawyers every year since 2010 and has the distinction of being selected to 2018 New Jersey Super Lawyers Top 100 list. To add to the breadth of his achievements, he is also a Fellow and the President of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. 

Edward S. Snyder is a founding partner with more than 40 years of experience in matrimonial litigation. He is a recipient of the Saul Tischler Award from the Family Law Section of the New Jersey Bar and has also been awarded the Silver Shingle from Boston University School of Law for outstanding service to the legal profession. Mr. Snyder has been selected to the New Jersey Super Lawyers Top 100 list for 2017 and 2018. Mr. Snyder has argued before the Supreme Court of New Jersey on three occasions, including the seminal case addressing the termination of alimony, Konzelman v. Konzelman, in which he represented the winning side.

Joseph V. Maceri is a managing partner of the firm’s Hackensack office and has been selected to Super Lawyers since 2017. In 2014, Mr. Maceri received two separate honors of the Top 40 Under 40 from NJBIZ and the National Trial Lawyers for his outstanding professional achievements in matrimonial law. He was also selected to Rising Stars from 2011 to 2015.

Charles Abut, Of Counsel and a Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey, has been named to the list each year since 2005. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial lawyers and has made television appearances on ABC, CBS, MSNBC, and CNBC. In addition to his extensive experience in all aspects of matrimonial litigation, he has successfully mediated and arbitrated hundreds of cases.

Paul M. da Costa is the head of the medical malpractice and personal injury practices and a Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. He has successfully litigated and won more than $20 million for his clients. Of his many professional achievements, he has been selected to Super Lawyers since 2017, and was also selected by the New Jersey Law Journal as one of the New Leaders of the Bar 2016. 

Adelaide Riggi is a partner of the firm and a Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. She has the honor of being included in Super Lawyers since 2017. She has handled numerous cases involving highly complex financial issues and has special expertise in child custody and parenting time issues.

Michael J. Stanton is Of Counsel for the firm and has been included in Super Lawyers since its inception in 2005. He is a Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey and a Certified Matrimonial Law Arbitrator by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. In addition, he is trained as Matrimonial Law Mediator and has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers for over twenty years.

John J. Trombadore is Of Counsel for the firm and has been included in Super Lawyers since its inception in 2005. In addition to being a Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey, he is Certified by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers as a Divorce Mediator. He currently devotes a substantial portion of his practice to mediation and arbitration.

Stacey A. Cozewith is a partner, a Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey and a certified mediator for the State of New Jersey. She has been named to Rising Stars 2009 – 2013, 2015 – 2018, and plays an integral role in our family law team. She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Somerset County Bar Association, Essex County Bar Association, and the Somerset County Family Law Inns of Court. Ms. Cozewith has special expertise in complex financial issues in family law and equitable distribution.

Scott D. Danaher is a partner and has been named to Rising Stars each year since 2009. He has devoted his entire legal career to family law-related matters. As a member of the Essex County Bar Association, the Co-Chair of the Essex County Bar Association Bench-Bar Committee, and a barrister in the Barry I. Croland Inns of Court, he is actively involved in the family law community. In addition, he successfully completed the National Family Law Trial Institute in May 2012, where he acquired a deeper foundation to become the outstanding litigator he is.

Rawan Hmoud is a partner and has practiced exclusively matrimonial law since the beginning of her legal career. In addition to the honor of being named to Rising Stars each year since 2012, Ms. Hmoud has been awarded the Top Ten Family Law Attorney Award (under the age of 40) by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys in 2015, and similar awards by New Jersey Monthly and the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys for her extraordinary professional achievement. She is also a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Essex County Bar Association, and the Essex County Barry I. Croland Family Law Inns of Court. 

Laura Guinta Gencarelli is a partner and has been named to Rising Stars beginning in 2017. Prior to joining the firm, she practiced matrimonial law, commercial litigation and real estate. However, she now devotes her practice exclusively to all aspects of matrimonial law. As an active participant in the family law community, she is a member of the Essex County Bar Association and the Barry Croland Family Law Inn of Court.

Emily R. Carstensen, currently serving as Counsel, has been named to Rising Stars each year since 2012. Ms. Carstensen is regularly appointed as a Guardian Ad Litem to represent the best interests of children in custody and parenting time disputes. She is a member of the Morris County and Bergen County Bar Associations and serves as a panelist on the Matrimonial Early Settlement Panel in same. Adding to the broad range of her professional accomplishments, she was also recognized by the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys in 2016 and 2017 for client satisfaction.
