In this NJ.com article, two of Paul M. da Costa’s cases are highlighted. Both cases involved the wrongful deaths of physical and intellectually disabled persons, including a 6-year-old and an 19-year-old. One case involves a former nurse who was sued by the parents of the 19-year-old who died in February 2023. The nurse was sentenced to probation and 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to endangering the welfare of another person and neglecting a disabled individual. The 19-year-old tragically drowned in his own mucus while heading home on a bus from his special needs school.

This sentence comes shortly after another one of Paul’s clients, the father of a 6-year-old, saw a school bus aide sentenced to 3 years in prison for endangering the welfare of a child. The young girl had died after her seat belt became positioned across her neck and restricting her airway.
